Sawtow Seafood Restaurant Review - Teochew Cuisine

Sawtow Seafood Restaurant

Teochew cuisine is traditionally known for its healthiness and freshness of its food especially the seafood dishes. The use of light flavoring and seasoning are signatory of Teochew culinary, which seeks to bring out the natural essence of the ingredients used. Serving not just seafood delicacies in the evening, Swatow Seafood Restaurant also offers handmade Hong Kong dim sum in the day. The combination of dim sum and seafood makes Swatow restaurant a distinguished name loved by many.

Coffee Flavour pork ribs. The meat is marinated just right and you are able to taste the coffee once you take the first bite on the meat. Together with almond bits, the dish taste a lot crunchier.

Wok-Fried Scallop with Broccoli in Teochew Style

Steamed Pomfret in Teochew style. Sweet and yet sour taste, typical teochew cuisine.

Braised Venison in Teochew style

Braised Ee-Fu Noodle in Abalone Sauce. The noodle is more towards soft texture and sweet taste because of the abalone sauce. There are other ingredients like mushroom and cabbage, definitely a choice for vegetarian.

Sweet Yam Paste with Golden Pumpkin and Gingko Nuts. This dessert taste great and i think it is the only dish worth tasting. The sweet yam paste combine with pumpkin, help to reduce the sweetness, and together with the gingko nuts, the taste is great. A small bowl is definitely not enough. 1 more serving please!!

Tong Heng Confectionary - Egg tart Review

Tong Heng Confectionary

Traditional store lies in the heart of Chinatown. They sell the best egg tart that can be found in Singapore. In additional of its delicious filling, the shape of the egg tart are also unique. Where can you find a diamond shape. Having a unique shape also plays a big role in its appeal, most people will pick up the pastry in their hands with their thumb and three fingers and the most natural way of eating the tart. One will start to aim to eat at the sharp edge first and ending with the opposite edge. You will get to taste the crunchy pastry and enjoy the soft and wobbly custard with thin base in between.

Boxes will only be used to put your egg tarts if you purchase more than 5 egg tarts. Recommended to buy in multiples of 6 so that you can ensure all your egg tarts are pack securely and the egg tarts will be intact.

Try storing the egg tart the refrigerator. They actually pretty good too. If you do not like cold, refrigerated egg tarts just heat the tarts up slightly and they'll still taste marvelous. The egg tarts can also be store in fridge.

The plain egg tarts also comes with coconut flavour. You can actually chew the coconut shred in the egg tart. Making them taste crunchier and special.  The custard of the egg tart is a bit soft and oozy while the pastry is flaky and yummy. The custard secret three ingredients are: viz eggs, water and sugar rather than using thickeners like custard powder or corn flour, theirs is a pure egg custard in other places.

Coconut Egg tart

The custard filling is slightly wobbly but still solid enough to require biting through. Try slurping the egg custard for the plain ones. The crisp and fluffy tart cup will make you feel marvelous when biting through. If you still have somemore spare cash, try also the wife and husband biscuits (or any biscuits they have). They taste as good as the egg tarts too.

Chuan Heng Fish Ball Minced Meat Noodle - Beef noodle Serangoon Garden

Beef Noodle

This store situated in the neighbourhood of Serangoon do not look high class, non air-conditioned nor serve their customers with expensive cuteries, but the beef noodle they sell is one of the best food in Singapore. Although the shop's name Fish Ball Minced Meat Noodle, their best dish is actually beef noodle.

The beef noodle is cooked at the right timing, giving it a soft and chewy texture. Soft and tender meat make it easy to eat. The beef is well marinated, you will be able to savour it's taste totally. Together with the unique broth and thin noodle, the dish is simply wonderful. The noodle or Hor Fun is with the right proportion and goes well with the amount of beef given.

The beef come with rice too but at a steeper price of $5. BUT, you get to enjoy more beef chunks!!!!

The soft chunks of beef come with a generous dash of coriander, all floating in a bowl of thick, savoury broth.

The store also sell other delicious food like fishball noodles and mice meat noodle which are recommended. Fishballs are homemade and serve with tasty soup base. Beside that, Laksa and Lor Mee are very tasty as well.

Poulet Review - Amazing French Roast Chicken

Poulet

Poulét, a contemporary restaurant with it's interior design furnished with wooden tables and modern classic chairs. It is a modern French-themed bistro offering affordable French cuisine to the public. With it's open kitchen, diners are able to look how the kitchen function and the chef's action while savoring in comfort.

Poulét offer an array of French cuisines, from Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Mains, Sides and Desserts at comfortable price.

Open kitchen -  Wooden tables and modern classic chairs

Appetizer for a start, Countryside mushroom soup. It taste creamy with mushrooms being blended into the soup. Zest of Potato can be traced while sipping the soup into your mouth. Woah, heavenly taste. I do not mind having 2nd serving but i have to leave some space for my stomach for later.

Salad de Paris consist of chopped leaves, cranberry, tomato, bits of avocado and black olive. Basically what you can find in a garden. Roasted Pine Nut are added to make the salad more crunchy and it is served with French Dressing. Overall, taste normal, not overly impressive.

Escargot de bourgogne comes in half a dozen of Burgundy Snails. It is served with tomato fondue and garlic butter. Nothing to 'Wow' about.

Saute wild mushroom with half boiled egg. The mushroom taste special when you break open the egg and dip the egg yolk with it. Yum yum.

The signature Poulét Roti. The Chicken is roasted slowly and the meat is flavored with a tint of citrus, served with Cranberry Sauce and Double Mustard, making it an overall perfect combination. The chicken come in either half or whole chicken. I recommend to take the whole chicken as this really taste wonderful. A must try dish.

Iberico Pork Belly is another mouth drooling dish. The meat is so tender, it really melts in your mouth before you can even chew! With the mustard sauce and potato puree, the combination bring one sky rocketing. Its a pity this dish is serve at a small portion, but this size is just right before I feel overwhelming. Ignore the carbs or fats, this is really a must must try dish.

Braise de Canard. Duck drumstick served in sweet wine sauce, garnished with carrot and onion, taste good, but the meat texture is not that great. Topped with Cranberry and glazed shallot make the dish taste and look better. But the meat is a bit dense to me.

Braise de Foulet. Simply put, this is just a brasied chicken with chicken broth. Not very impressive or fantastic taste, but the chicken is cooked at the right timing and the meat is tender. Suitable for those who prefer softer meat texture.

The Prata Place - Thong Soon Avenue (review)

The Prata Place

The Prata Place is serve delicious Indian food like prata, masala, thosai, goreng goreng, murtabak and even set meals. The prata they are serving are more on the chewy side compare to the crispy kind. Plus, the curry sauce which you are suppose to eat with taste fantastic. The combination is great. They are Halal certified and they even provide catering services. Their special dish is "Chicken Floss Prata" plus many more variety of Indian cuisine.

Air-condition restaurant which you will not have to eat under the warm Singapore climate. They also have outdoor service tables if you preferred to eat at non-air condition.

Open kitchen enable one to view the inside of the kitchen and how the food are prepared.

Mee Goreng. It is made with thin yellow noodles fried in cooking oil with garlic, onion, cabbages, tomatoes, egg, and acar (pickles). You get to choose your meat, either chicken or mutton. Personally I will recommend the mutton mee goreng. The mee are moist, not too dry, the mutton bits are tender and not overcooked. Plus the spiciness of this dish, make it so yummy for everyone to try it.

Top Prata:  SPECIALITY PRATA "Plaster Prata"

Bottom Prata: "Egg Prata"

I will introduce the specialty prata first. Why are they call specialty? This is because the prata that they serve is not authentic and are modify to suit current trend and younger generations. The plaster prata is like adding an sunny side up egg on top of the plain prata. It really test the cook's skill as the egg yolk must not be overcooked, instead it must be still juicy. Try adding some of that curry sauce, the mixture of egg yolk, prata and curry is really out of this world.

There are several other speciality prata like Banana Prata, Mushroom Prata, Milky Prata, Strawberry Prata and Chocolate Prata. Beside plaster prata, i will recommend Milky prata too.

For those normal traditional prata, plain or egg prata, this shop offer an extra large egg prata to their customers. Customers will get to eat the egg, which is at the center of the prata, you are also able to eat the crispy sides of the prata at both ends. Chewy and crispy combinations for the price of one. Very worth it.

The curry gravy which are served is usually fish curry which is unique. This is because other prata shop preferred to serve either chicken or mutton curry. But fish curry taste somewhat smoother and less thicker compare to the previous. In addition, onions, garlic and spices are added to cook this fish curry making the curry more fragrant. Whats more, you get to refill this wonderful gravy if you finished it before the prata!!

Teh Tarik  is a hot Indian milk tea beverage. Its name is derived from the pouring process of "pulling" the drink during preparation. It is made from black tea, condensed milk and evaporated milk. They do serve cold too. But the taste will not be that wonderful. By drinking hot, you will be able to taste the tea and the combination of the tea and the milk mixing around you tongue. Simply wonderful.
